If you have secured an EWS rank of 45930 in JEE Mains, your chances of getting into the top National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) may be slightly difficult under the All India Quota, especially for popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics. However, you still have good chances in some newer NITs, IIITs, and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) depending on your preferred branch, home state quota, and category reservation.
Here are some colleges where you may have a chance for admission:
Newer NITs such as NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Puducherry, etc. – You may get lower-demand branches like Civil or Mechanical.
IIITs such as IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Una, IIIT Kurnool, and other newer IIITs.
GFTIs like Assam University Silchar, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, or other state-level colleges that accept JEE Main scores.
Since you belong to the EWS category, you have the benefit of reservation which increases your chances. You should also apply through JoSAA counselling and select as many choices as possible during the option filling. This increases your chances of getting at least one decent college.
Extra tip : Keep an eye on spot round counselling and CSAB rounds after the main JoSAA rounds. Many students leave seats, and you may grab a better college during those rounds. Also, explore state counselling processes where your JEE rank can get you a better local college
If your JEE Main rank is around 446126, getting a seat in top government colleges like NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs is highly unlikely, especially under the general category or for popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics. However, do not lose hope yet. You still have a few options depending on your category, state quota, and preferred branch .
If you belong to a reserved category like SC, ST, or OBC , or EWS, you still might have some chances in lesser competitive colleges, especially under your home state quota . For example, some state government engineering colleges in Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh accept JEE Main scores and offer seats to students with higher ranks through their state counselling process.
Another thing you can do is apply through JoSAA and CSAB counselling rounds . In CSAB special rounds , many students leave seats, and you may get lucky with leftover seats in some government-funded colleges — especially in branches like Civil Engineering, Metallurgy, or Textile Engineering.
Extra tip : Don't just focus on JEE-based admissions. Look for state-level entrance exams or even private universities that offer scholarships for students who appeared in JEE. Colleges like SRM, VIT, or Amrita might provide you partial scholarships too.
Also, consider improving your preparation and giving JEE again next year if you’re passionate about getting into a better college.
So, while chances are limited for central govt colleges at this rank, there is still a pathway — be flexible and use all the options available.
With an 11 lakh rank in JEE Mains, it’s quite difficult to get a seat in top-tier NITs or IIITs. However, you can still try for:
State-level government colleges through your state quota
Private colleges with government fee structure (some have lower cutoffs)
Colleges offering seats through CSAB (Special Round) — you might find options there with open seats.
Also, consider diploma to degree (lateral entry) after 3 years in polytechnic, or explore state CETs where competition is slightly lower.
Hello Aditya,
with a 62.75 percentile and 570018 rank in JEE Mains, getting into NITs or IIITs is unlikely even with category benefit. you can explore state engineering colleges through state level counseling like REAP in Rajasthan or private colleges like LPU, Amity, etc. also consider management quota or diploma to degree options if you're open to alternatives.
Securing admission to the B.Tech program at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is highly unlikely.
JMI primarily reserves its B.Tech seats for Muslim applicants under various subcategories, as it is a Muslim minority institution. There are limited seats available for non-Muslim candidates, and these are typically filled based on the Common Rank List (CRL) rather than category-specific ranks. For instance, in previous years, the closing CRL ranks for general category candidates in B.Tech programs ranged from approximately 15,766 to 73,279, depending on the branch
Hello,
Satakshi Gupta with CRL 289509 and NCL 101585 in JEE 2025 may get a Delhi-based engineering college through home state quota, especially in private or lower-ranked g9overnment colleges. top-tier institutions like DTU, NSUT, or IIIT-D may be through at this rank unless tehre's a category relxation. exact admission depends on cutoff trends, so check official JoSAA or state counselling portals for accurate options.

Thanks for sharing your details. Let's break it down:
Category : SC (Scheduled Caste)
Gender : Girl
JEE Main 2025 Rank : 11,69,926
To get admission into NITs through JoSAA , you must:
Have qualified JEE Main .
Secure a rank within the closing cutoff for SC category (female quota helps too in some NITs).
Unfortunately, a rank of ~11.7 lakh is too high for getting a seat in NITs, even under the SC and female quotas. Typically, SC category closing ranks for NITs go up to:
Around 2.5 to 3 lakh (SC rank) for less preferred branches and NITs.
You can get admission in state government colleges through state-level counseling using your 12th marks or JEE rank with SC reservation.
Many private colleges offer direct admission with low JEE ranks. Examples:
Chandigarh University
Galgotias University
Amity, LPU, etc.
If you're technically JEE Main qualified , you can try CSAB special rounds , where leftover seats are filled—even with lower ranks.
If you're determined to get into a good government college, consider taking a drop year and preparing again for JEE 2026 with coaching and strategy. SC category has strong reservation advantage , and even 80–85 percentile can help get into NITs with the right strategy.
With an OBC-NCL rank of 22384 in JEE Main, you have a good chance of getting into some of the better NITs and IIITs, as well as some other reputable engineering colleges. However, it's important to remember that cutoffs vary by branch and institute.
You could potentially be admitted to NITs like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Durgapur, or NIT Hamirpur. You might have a small chance at some of the newer or less competitive IITs, but this is not a certainty.
But can consider the top private colleges like VIT, SRM, LPU, UPES, SIT Pune, etc.

Hello Vaibhav,
You're in a good spot with a 97 percentile and solid IIIT/NIT/BIT Mesra options.
If your aim is software/tech industry (coding, product, startups, placements): opt for CSE at any of the IIITs at Dharwad, Ranchi, Bhagalpur or Manipur. Even tier-3 IIITs (CSE) will lead to better placements and internship opportunities in software roles than core branches at NITs. These will lead to better ROI than core branches, due to the tech placements and remote work.
Your next best option: IIIT ECE at Sri City or Una (ECE at Sri City has good industry engagement since it is close to Chennai & tech parks).
Recommended Prioritisation (if you are comfortable pursuing a tech career):
