Questions related to JEE Main

Absolutely, your son still has options. Even with a 54 percentile in JEE Mains and not appearing for WBJEE, he can still get admission into a B.Tech CSE program, especially through private universities or colleges that offer direct admission or accept JEE scores with no specific cutoff.

Since his 12th board marks are strong at 91%, many private engineering colleges across India — and especially in West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and even some deemed universities — offer admissions based on board merit or low JEE scores. Some of these colleges conduct their own counselling or may have institutional quota seats for students who haven’t cleared WBJEE or scored high in JEE.

For example, colleges like UEM Kolkata, Brainware University, Seacom, Sister Nivedita University, and some AICTE-approved private colleges in West Bengal may admit him through management or general counselling with his 12th marks and JEE percentile. If you're open to colleges in other states, options expand further — institutes like Reva University, Ajeenkya DY Patil, Lovely Professional University, and many others allow direct B.Tech admission.

For the JEE Main 2025–26 academic year, the syllabus has been rationalised in line with NCERT textbook changes. So yes, certain topics have been officially deleted and won't be asked in the exam.

In Physics, topics like communication systems, some detailed portions of thermodynamics (like the Carnot engine), and advanced concepts in waves, Doppler effect, and resonance have been removed. A few parts of kinematics involving vector products have also been taken out.

In Chemistry, chapters like surface chemistry, environmental chemistry, polymers, chemistry in everyday life, hydrogen, s-block elements, and metallurgy (extraction of metals) have been deleted. Some atomic structure and gas laws sections were trimmed too.

In Mathematics, topics such as mathematical reasoning, statistics, some parts of vector algebra and 3D geometry, principle of mathematical induction, and certain portions of the binomial theorem have been dropped.

If you're preparing for JEE, it's a smart move to stick to the updated NCERT textbooks and official NTA syllabus.

Hello Aspirant,

Haryana State Technical Education Society (HSTES) counseling typically considers the reserved category rank (SC rank) when providing the allotment of seats in that reserved category; for instance, SC reserved category candidates usually will be allotted a seat in the SC category based on their SC rank of 1,36,957, not their CRL (Common Rank List) rank. For example, for general/open category seats, the CRL rank will be considered. It is essential to upload valid category certificates. Please follow the instructions for counseling carefully.

hi,

With a SC rank of 33,041 and CRL rank of 4,77,000 in JEE Mains, you can definitely try for colleges through JoSAA counselling. You may not get top NITs or highly demanded branches like CSE, but you still have chances in lower NITs, newer IIITs, or GFTIs in branches like Mechanical, Civil, EEE, or Metallurgy. You can look for seats in colleges like NIT Nagaland, NIT Mizoram, NIT Patna, NIT Silchar, or IIIT Una, IIIT Kurnool, and similar institutes.

Alright, so with a JEE Main CRL rank of 95,000, an EAPCET rank of 11,900, and 994/1000 in IPE, you're in a pretty decent spot overall. Since you’re from the General-EWS category, that gives you a slight advantage too.

Now, for EAPCET-based admissions into these colleges, especially for popular branches like CSE, the cutoff ranks are usually pretty tight. In most cases, CSE at CBIT and Vasavi tends to close within the top 3,000 to 4,000 ranks. For VNR, it stretches a little more, but even then, CSE might close around 5,000 to 6,000. Since your EAPCET rank is around 11,900, it’s going to be hard to get CSE in these colleges through the regular counselling route.

But here’s where the B-category comes in—this is where colleges take in students based on JEE Main scores, management quota, or sometimes directly. Your JEE Main rank of 95,000 isn’t exactly top-tier for CSE at CBIT or Vasavi, but for IT or even ECE, you might actually have a pretty decent shot, especially if you apply early and stay proactive.

So realistically speaking, getting CSE in CBIT or Vasavi under B-category might be tough, but IT or related branches are definitely possible. VNR VJIET might be slightly more relaxed compared to the other two, so you’ve got better chances there, especially for IT or ECE.

I’d suggest applying for B-category seats in all three colleges, and while keeping your hopes up for CSE, definitely stay open to IT. It’s super close in curriculum and career scope, and you can always work towards CS profiles later through internships and skills.

All the best!
