COMEDK Final Counselling before CET/NEET - Whom are they Helping?

What is the point in COMEDK closing its counselling process before CET closes its final round (R2 extended) of counselling. A student may be forced to take up a seat through COMEDK though he/she may be hopeful of getting a satisfactory seat through CET. No one wants to take risk when it comes to their college admissions and the candidate ends paying fees to COMEDK (non-refundable). If the student gets admission through CET he/she will take it up, as the fees is only one third, vacating the seat through COMEDK.

There are many students who write NEET and CET/COMEDK aspiring for admission to medical courses but willing to take up engineering when admission through NEET doesn't come through. NEET counselling is yet to start. Hence students are holding on to their seats through CET/COMEDK creating very less open positions. Hence a student with a particular rank will get a college/course much lower in ranking compared to last year.  In BMS college Computer Science course 2016 cutoff rank was 913 but this year COMEDK last round cut off rank is only 555. That means steep increase in rank which cannot be justified by any means.

COMEDK should finish their conselling only after CET/NEET completes the process. Otherwise students who drop out of  COMEDK to take admissions through CET/NEET, will create lot of vacant seats that will go to college management. The management can charge a very high fees for these seats.

COMEDK was set up to bring merit and fairness in admissions to private engineering colleges in Karnataka. In this hurried closure, whom are they helping  - students or management?

COMEDK needs to ensure that the process is fair to students. To facilitate this, COMEDK should close counselling only after CET and NEET counselling.

Hope the authorities realise the very purpose of such a system being set up and take decisions that are right and especially help students who are already stressed out.

RVCE was the college I had aimed from and even with a rank of 1658 , I have not been allotted mechanical or EEE which according to last year were 100 and 300 ranks behind my rank respectively . I fully agree that there should further rounds of counselling held , the primary reason being that the delay in JOSAA has led to students securing seats here .

Agreed and this is very concerning. Requesting COMEDK authorities to conduct third round of allotment, considering the current situation and to be fair with students.

Students study hard to get admission  into good institutes. FInally the "counselling" process, which decides the fate of their admission, offers little "comfort" to them. Hope that COMEDK/KEA will take note of this and conduct more rounds similar to JoSAA ( IIT/NIT). It conducts 7 rounds.
