M.Des Application Process

Admission to universities/institutes that offer M.Des is based on the candidate’s merit in the entrance examination. The top-level entrance examination for the Master of Design is CEED. Candidates should appear for the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED).

There is no age limit for the CEED exam. Anyone can appear for the CEED examination. Candidates who have completed bachelor’s degrees can appear for the examination. After the entrance examination, a personal interview is also conducted.

Direct admissions: Individuals can apply for admission by travelling to the university, filling out the admission form, attaching the required documents, and submitting it via offline mode. Candidates can also apply by visiting the college's official website, completing the application form, and attaching the required papers in the way specified. It is also expected that the registration cost will be paid at the time of application.

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED): CEED is an entrance examination for admission to the M.Des programme. Before appearing for the CEED, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Engineering/Design. The language of the CEED examination is English. The paper will be divided into two parts. Part A has objective-type questions and Part B of the paper consists of design and hand-drawn type questions.


NID DAT: The NID Design Aptitude Test is offered at the National Institute of Design Universities. Candidates have to qualify for two NID admission tests to be eligible for admission to NID Campuses.


NIFT: National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts this examination to give admission to its design programmes. It is a national-level entrance examination. Delhi is the headquarters of NIFT. After qualifying for the NIFT examination, students get admission to various design courses like M.Des, B.Des., BTech, and MTech.


Indian Institute of Craft and Design (IICD) Examination: IICD is a university-level entrance examination. It is divided into two parts. After qualifying for the first part of the examination, he/she will have to qualify for the second part and after passing the entrance examination, students have to appear for the personal interview.

IIAD: The Indian Institute of Art and Design conducts the IIAD entrance exam to give admission to UG and PG design programmes. After appearing for the written examination, students have to appear for a personal interview/studio round.

MDes Cut Off

The MDes design cutoff is the minimum grade required for admission to a university. Each course and the university has its cutoff. Cutoffs are determined by a variety of factors, including the difficulty of the entrance exam, the number of applicants, previous year cutoff trends, and the popularity of the course. Under CEED Institute which offered M.des to the candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent (4 years duration after 10+2) not allowed candidates with B.A or b.sc but you can do Mdes in IIT Hyderabad they offer course after completing  Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications (2 year programme after10+2+3).
