The RV College of Engineering (RVCE) Bengaluru, in partnership with Cisco, inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Internet of Things (CoE IoT) at the institute campus on Monday, April 3. Established with the objective of providing students with the digital skill training necessary for 21st century jobs, the CoE IoT was officially declared open by Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary in the Dept. of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology of the Government of Karnataka and Mr. VC Gopalratnam, President, IT and Chief Information Officer, International at Cisco.
Speaking at the launch of the CoE IoT, Dr. K N Subramanya, the Principal of RVCE said, “We are honoured to work with Cisco in establishing the Centre of Excellence for Internet of Things. The Centre will shape the careers of thousands of students with the help of our stellar faculty, specialised curriculum and quality infrastructure. RVCE has long been committed to creating educational excellence and a better society, and today’s announcement is an amplification of our efforts in bringing world-class skills and training to talent all across the state.”
According to RV College, the CoE will offer a specialized curriculum and prepare thousands of students from 50 colleges across Karnataka for technology-based careers. It will also support the training and reskilling of mid-career professionals both in the private and government sectors. The specialised curriculum will comprise live and video-based learning and involve the application of technology to real issues in collaboration with local industry and government bodies. Experts from RVCE will complement this curriculum and deliver training on digitisation and IoT and encourage innovation in diverse industries including transportation, energy, agriculture and manufacturing.
The Centre will also offer several technology courses ranging from one to four weeks or six months to a year, tailored to suit the requirement of students and working professionals. Short-term courses will be available on evenings and weekends on a weekly basis. On completion of the course, students and working professionals will receive credential certificates jointly given by RVCE and Cisco.
On behalf of Cisco, Mr. Gopalratnam said, “With the Centre of Excellence, we are giving students and working professionals across the state access to the skills and training needed to create startups and build successful technology careers. I believe that India's entrepreneurial spirit, highly skilled workforce and supportive government will accelerate the country's digital transformation. We are thrilled to work with RVCE and the Government of Karnataka to launch a generation of problem solvers who will innovate, think like entrepreneurs and bring in a Digital India.”
