Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will conduct JEE Advanced 2018 in online mode on May 20. Apart from officially announcing the mode and date of the entrance test for IIT admission, the exam conducting authority has also released the schedule for JEE Advanced 2018 Paper I and Paper II. As per IIT Kanpur officials, Paper I will be held from 9 am to 12 pm, while Paper II will be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm on May 20. Aspiring candidates must note that the schedule of JEE Advanced 2018 will remain the same even if the day of the exam is a public holiday. It’s for the first time that the entrance examination for IIT admission will be held in online mode. Earlier, till 2017 JEE Advanced was conducted in offline mode.

The announcement comes 10 days after Prof. Shalabh, Organising Chairman of JEE Advanced 2018 had shared with Careers360 that the decision on the mode of national level engineering entrance examination will be taken by JAB in the next 10 days.

Apart from the test schedule, mode and date, IIT Kanpur has also declared the list of the participating institutes of JEE Advanced 2018. As many as 23 IITs will offer admissions to undergraduate engineering programmes based on JEE Advanced 2018. This means that there will be no new IIT for the academic year 2018-19.
However, further details about the other aspects of the test will be announced in the due course. In 2016, IITs offered a total of 10,572 B.Tech seats, while in 2017, the undergraduate engineering seats increased to 10,988 across 23 IITs.
For academic year 2017-18, JEE Advanced was held on May 21, while in 2018, the entrance test will be held a day in advance (on May 20) as compared to JEE Advanced 2017.
JEE Advanced is the entrance test for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at the IITs. As per JEE Advanced 2017 official data, out of the 2,20,000 eligible candidates, a total of 1,59,540 candidates had taken the entrance test. Out of the total appeared candidates, 50,455 had qualified the entrance exam for IIT admissions. Out of these 50,455 candidates who had qualified JEE Advanced 2017, 43,318 were male and 7,137 were female candidates. This means that out of the total appeared candidates, 86% were boys and 14% were girls.
