IIT Bombay Students Claim Inaccuracy in QS World University Rankings!
Students of IIT Bombay not happy with the QS World University Rankings for their institute took the time to analyse the parameters set in store and claim that the rankings are not accurate at all.
Claiming that IIT B is ahead of IIT Delhi on at least three parameters, the students say that IIT Delhi has still been ranked higher by the ranking agency. The data available for the QS World Rankings 2012 was analyzed by the students to check the truth in it. They then took the data for IIT Bombay to compare it with the data on IIT Delhi. They even compared the National University of Singapore (NUS), one of the top ranked universities in Asia with IIT Bombay in one parameter.
They found that the agency placed a weightage of 40% on academic reputation and 10% to employer reputation. The students say that IIT B has fared better than IIT D on both the parameters from the data taken from the QS World Rankings website for the year 2012. As per the data, IIT-B scored 183 for academic reputation and IIT-Delhi 215 while for employer's reputation IIT-B had a score of 65 and IIT-D 75.
The other parameter looked into is the student-faculty ratio (SFR), with a 20% weightage where the students feel IIT-B has a better ratio. The argument of the IIT B students goes that the fewer the students per faculty member, the higher should be the score for this parameter.
QS has presented the normalised scores for SFR at 81.4, 35.4 and 28.9 for NUS, IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay, respectively. The students independently though arrived at the SFRs of 17, 18 and 15, respectively showing a lack of correlation between the raw data and the normalized scores of QS.
The citations per faculty are another parameter that is the dampener in the ranking of the IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay doesnot enforce a strong and standard convention for stating the names. Hence IIT Bobay has been addressed in various ways like IIT-Bombay, I.I.T. Bombay, IIT-Powai and IITB to name a few. This is where the scores are less.
InSight - the IIT B in-house student magazine has the comparative report on the QS World Rankings published in its latest issue. With the advent of media attention on the QS World Rankings and the subsequent comparative report by the IIT B students, Nivvedan, editor of InSight advises against using these rankings as gospel. The students also feel that with the inconsistencies prevelant in the rankings and the data used for the same, students should go a bit cautious before assuming them to be the truth.

Questions related to IIT Bombay
iit bombay college engineering physics or bits hyderabad college electronics which group is best for placements?
If you want to work in the core fields, then you should choice as per the subject. But if you want to go for Coding jobs and you join to IT then I would recommend you to go for IIT BOMBAY Engineering Physics. If you learn coding (for engineering physics/ physics there is coding in different languages such as python, C++, Fortran etc but they aren't that in depth but you can invest some time by taking electives) then you will get amazing offers in IIT BOMBAY. I am not saying BITS will not give you good placements but the environment, the scope and the label that will IIT provide you will be far better than that of BITS. Also for Engineering Physics as a course subject you can get good positions in Automobile Industries, Civil and architectural companies such as L&T. So for IIT you will have a good choice and IIT Bombay is the best institute in India, so if you get a chance don't leave it just for the subject matter as nothing will matter if you are hard working. Now if you are only interested about Electronics then I would say go for BITS. But if you want to get any of the two then go for IIT Bombay.

i am jee 2021 aspirant, sir my interested engineering branch is energy department (iit bombay) .but i have some doubts , 1) do i get good placement? 2) can i start my own startup in this field ?3) is this branch make significance in future?
The Department of Energy Science and Engineering (DESE) focuses on research and education for the development of sustainable energy systems for the future. The Department is an unique blend of science and engineering for the Energy sector.
Today, we can clearly say that world and all the tasks in the world are energy driven. Our country being one of the fastest growing economy, we need more and more energy.
Today every country is now looking to change from conventional form of energy sources (thermal, hydro, coal, oil, etc) to non-conventional form of energy (solar, wind, geo-thermal, etc).
For that reason, Energy Engineering department gets lot of fund for R&D. This branch of engineering will have lots of works and growth in near future so its highly advisable to go for this course. As far as opening a startup is concerned, if you join IIT Bombay which is most prestigious and highly rated IIT, you will learn lot of new things, meet lot of bright minds and professors and 4 years of this knowledge and guidance can surely help you to open a startup in future. If you are thinking of joining this course then you can join it without any doubt.

how to get IIT BOMBAY easily for CSE branch sc category what should we do to crack JEE advanced? and what will be my rank in jee mains march attempt i got 53.19 percentile?
See IIT BOMBAY is one the Best IITs. There is no "easy" of getting in there with CSE Branch .JEE Advanced being a national level highly competitive exam , it would take much efforts irrespective of category.
As per the official JOSAA website the closing rank for IIT BOMBAY CSE last year(2020) for Female Sc quota was 107.
You can check previous year cutoffs here for IIT BOMBAY-
Or you can also Check at official JOSAA website:
See as the exam pattern for JEE Advanced changes every year its quite difficult to predict exactly how many marks are required for specific institute.
It has been observed that for General students who score 40-50% of total marks of JEE Advanced paper 1 & paper 2 have decent chances of getting into IITs,
Now for SC Category & Female quota nearly 50-60% of total marks might help to get IIT BOMBAY CSE Branch.
(This may or may not be accurate due to changing pattern and trends every year.)
Now one needs not just understand all the concepts of JEE syllabus very well but one also needs to develop a high exam temperament attitude, because the pattern of exam is declared when get to see the question paper on the day of exam itself.
Identify your strength and weaknesses, improve your weak areas , rectify your mistakes from mock tests.Do as many mock tests as you can.
