List of Engineering Colleges in India – Courses, Fees, Reviews, Location, Ownership

Scientists tend to discover the ‘what factor’ for any material or object or type of energy, while engineers discover the ‘how to use what factor’ for the same. An engineer is an amalgamation of three professions - a scientist, a sociologist, and a mathematician. Engineering is also one of the most progressively dominant fields of studies in India. It doesn’t matter which zone or region of India you belong to because there are scope and availability of engineering colleges in all parts of India. There is a place for all those students who are passionate about finding creative yet practical answers to all the complicated scientific matters of human life.

In this article, we will list down the best engineering colleges based on the four zones of India - North Zone, East Zone, South Zone and West Zone. Along with the list, we have a curated set of information about these colleges which cover all possible queries posed by any or all candidates.

Engineering Courses and their Eligibility Criteria

Generally, students of science stream tend to choose this mainstream domain, Engineering, after completion of 10+2 exams. The job profiles range from being an aerospace engineer to a construction engineer. Though the course is demanding and exhaustive, the placements make it one of the most sought-after degrees to be pursued right after high school. There are more than 40 engineering specializations for you to choose from. For example, some of the most popular engineering specializations are: -

Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Courses

There are five engineering course options available for all undergraduate-level applicants. Listed below are the eligibility criteria for each of the five options.

  • BE or B.Tech. - All applicants must have passed their XII exam from science stream with a minimum aggregate of 60 percent.

  • B.Tech. Lateral Entry - All applicants must have successfully finished a three-year long Diploma course recognized by the technical examination board of any state with a minimum aggregate of 45 percent marks.

  • ME or M.Tech. - There are two indicators that have to be passed for ME/MTech degrees, that is, any student who applies must hold an undergraduate degree and have obtained necessary marks in the entrance exam, i.e. GATE.

  • Engineering Diploma - All applicants must have dutifully completed their 10th or any equivalent examination by scoring a minimum of thirty-five marks in all science and mathematics subjects.

  • Ph.D. - Every aspirant of PhD degree must have passed out from both BTech and MTech in the relevant field with an aggregate of fifty-five percent marks, at the very least.

Admission Process for Engineering Courses

  • At the under-graduation level, there are various entrance exams that candidates must clear to gain admission in the preferred college. Some of the most popular entrance exams for engineering courses are: -

  • JEE Mains and JEE Advanced

  • BITSAT

  • SRMJEEE

  • VITEEE

  • MHTCET

  • At the post-graduation level, there is only one exam that has to be aced by applicants to get admission in their dream college, and that exam is - GATE
