Engineering has become one of the most sought-after disciplines of science to study, which gives the student who pursues it various employment opportunities based on their skills and merit. There are more than forty thousand colleges and universities in India which offer students to study in different branches of engineering. The options for undergraduate courses are higher than aspirants who want to complete their postgraduate courses or PhD.
Diploma in Automobile Engineering:
This course is usually taken up by the candidate directly after SSC or 10th grade, but the candidate can also enrol themselves for the diploma course after 12th. The duration of a diploma in automobile engineering is three years, and the student attains an admission directly in the second year of Bachelors in Engineering after completion of the course.
The eligibility criteria for a diploma in engineering is that the candidate must score an average of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a board that is recognized by the government.
The student after the successful completion of the HSC exams can submit their application to the various shortlisted colleges of his/her choice, and the admission is based most probably on merit, but in some cases, the students also have to attempt the entrance exams conducted by the particular college.
BE or BTech:
Bachelor in Technology or Bachelor in Engineering is the undergraduate course taken up directly after HSC or when you complete a diploma after 10th.
If you have completed your HSC and you aspire to study engineering, then you will have to attempt the JEE Main exam.
The second variant of the Joint Entrance Examination is JEE Advanced for those candidates who want admission in any of the IIT’s all over India.
ME or MTech:
The eligibility criteria to get admission for Masters in Automobile Engineering is that the candidate should have a valid BE/BTech or M.Sc. degree with a minimum score of 55% that is 5.5/10 on a point scale.
Candidates should also clear the GATE examination with an eligibility score as laid down by the institution.
It is important to note that some of the engineering colleges in India accept candidates who have not appeared for the GATE Examination. However, for aspirants who are willing to get admitted to IIT’s, GATE is compulsory.
Ph.D. in Engineering:
To pursue a Doctorate in Engineering, the candidate is required to have two years of master’s degree in engineering or technology from any university or college in India or abroad related to the discipline.
The candidate must acquire a minimum of 55% marks from the institution he/she has completed the Masters.

For UG course:
The basic requirement for admission in the UG category for B. Tech is that you should have passed 10+2 from a recognized university with the minimum aggregate marks. Apart from this, you should have science and math as the main subjects in 10+2 to get admission in engineering.
Different colleges have different criteria for admission. Like for some of them, you will get admission based on your 12th marks only, while for some others, you must clear the entrance exam as well. So, it totally depends on the college you are choosing. JEE Main is the national entrance test for UG courses. It depends state wise.
For PG course: The same process goes here but a little bit may vary. For post-graduation courses like ME/ M.Tech, you need to have minimum aggregate marks in graduation. Apart from this, some universities and colleges conduct entrance exams for PG courses in engineering like GATE but this also varies state wise because every state has its own code of conduct for the admission process.
Placement Rating is basically the percentage of graduates getting hired through campus placements every year from different departments. Students, while confirming their admission, should consider this crucial aspect of placement before selecting their desired college for their engineering education.
