How is the TNEA rank list 2020 prepared?
The rank list of TNEA 2020 will be prepared by the concerned authorities after considering the marks secured by the candidates in the qualifying examination. Since the difficulty level will be different for various qualifying exams, the authorities will reduce the secured marks in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry to the base of 200. While Mathematics will have a higher weightage i.e. 100 marks, Physics and Chemistry will be combined and be of 100 marks.
Mathematics - 100 marks
Physics & Chemistry - 100 marks
If the candidates have qualified in vocational stream, then the conversion will be:
Related subject - 100 marks
Vocational subject including theory and practical - 100 marks
TNEA 2020 Rank List - Normalization Procedure
To ensure that no difference is made between the candidates of various qualifying examinations, the authorities will adopt a normalization procedure. The marks secured by the candidates of different boards within Tamil Nadu will be equated using a formula and some guidelines.
For example; If the highest score secured in Physics by a candidate of Tamil Nadu State Board is 100 and by a candidate of any other board is 90, then both high scores will be considered to be equal to 100. If an other board candidate scores 60 marks in Physics when the highest mark in Physics in the same board is 90, then the 60 marks will be taken as equal to 66.66% as shown below:
(100x60)/90 = 66.6%
The qualified candidates will be included into the merit/rank list after the normalization of marks in the subjects of the qualifying examination conducted by different boards of the state is done.
Tie-Breaking Procedure of TNEA Rank List 2020
There may be a situation where two or more candidates secure the same marks in the qualifying examination. In such a case, the authorities will break the tie by following the listed guidelines in the given order.
Candidates who have scored a higher percentage in Mathematics will be allotted a higher rank.
If the tie is not broken, then the candidate with a higher percentage score in Physics will be given preference in ranking.
If the tie is still not solved, then the candidate with a higher percentage score in the fourth optional subject will be allotted a higher rank.
If the above options don’t work, then the candidate who is older in age will be given a higher rank.
Finally, if none of the options are able to solve the tie, then the candidate with a higher random number will be given preference.
