Tamil Nadu Counselling Advice
By Ajeet Singh
With the number of engineering colleges rising, getting admission is not that big a problem. What is important is getting admission to a good institute in the branch of your choice.
In TN counselling, candidates are called according to their rank and are told to write down their priorities of branch and college. Candidates with higher ranking are first given seat of their choice, and your fate for the seats will be decided by the seats left and your ranking. So before going for counselling, decide the priority order of the institute and branch. Important thing to note here is that your priorities should be in accordance with your rank. If the choice of your institute and branch doesn’t match your rank, it will be of no use.
Saurabh Kumar, HoD Physics at Vidya Mandir, an IIT-JEE test prep institute, says, “Don’t give a thought to college about which no information is available, and which is situated in a remote area.” But do not also ignore new colleges which have bet on good infrastructure and faculty. So do your reserach throughly. Speak to students who have already taken admission in these colleges. Finally don’t go by fads but rely on facts.Careers360 has come up with a recommendation engine for Tamil Nadu. On the Day of Counselling
Reach the counselling centre at the earliest. Keep all your certificates handy. Do not consult others just before entering the counselling centre. Stick to your research and preferences. Keep a preference set and an alternative set of colleges. Finally enjoy what you get and study hard!
