JEE Main 2018 Exam Analysis by Plancess
Anup Pandey, CEO, Plancess Edusolutions Pvt. Ltd. shared his insights pertaining to the various factors related to JEE Main 2018. Read the analysis below.
Q1. How was the exam overall and how was the difficulty level?
Answer: The overall paper was quite similar to the last year’s paper. It was moderately on the easier side. Those students who have prepared thoroughly should not have any problem solving this paper. Also the weightage of marks across all the topics was distributed well and was as per the syllabus defined. No special focus on any topic was observed in any of the subject.
Q2. Which section was the easiest and which was the toughest? Elaborate your reasons for the same.
Answer: Physics was the toughest one of all. It had a good mix of conceptual and calculative questions. Though it was not very lengthy from calculation point of view but it required a deeper understanding of most of the concepts. Questions from 12th standard were more than that of 11th standard. There were 17 questions asked from 12th standard and 13 from 11th standard. As per the past trends, this year again Chemistry was the easiest one though it was a bit lengthy. 14 questions were asked from 12th std and 16 from 11 std. Except 3-4 questions, most of the questions were either easy or moderate.
Q3. Kindly share the weightage given to class 11 and 12th in the question paper. Was this year’s paper different than last year? If yes, in what sense was it different this time?
Answer: 11th Std had a little more weightage than 12th std. Overall, 41 questions were asked from 12th standard and 49 from from 11th standard. This paper wasn’t different from last year paper. In fact, it was similar to last two year’s question paper.
Q4. From the exam pattern of JEE Main 2018, what kind of cut off can we expect?
Answer: The cut-off of the paper should lie between 98 to 105.
Q5. Which all topics were given more weightage in the paper in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics?
Answer: In Mathematics, Algebra was the area where most of the questions were asked and then it was from Calculus. In Chemistry, Physical Chemistry dominated most of the questions and then, it was Organic Chemistry. In Physics, most of the questions were asked from Electrodynamics and then, it was Mechanics.
Q6. How many students from your coaching institute appeared in the entrance exam today? What was their take on the exam?
Answer: Well, we are not into offline coaching, but if we talk about the registered user with us, more than 50,000 students from our database took the exam. We did speak to some of our registered students and most of them were quite happy and confident. Some of them were little upset about the lengthy nature of Chemistry section in particular.
Q7. As the number of top rankers of JEE Main eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced 2018 has increased this year, how would the increased number of test takers influence the cutoff of JEE Main 2018?
Answer: There will not be any effect on the cutoff of JEE Main 2018 due to this increased number. Since it is always a relative performance, there will not be any major impact on cutoff.
