JEE Main 2019 January result for Paper 1 was declared by the authorities on January 19. On this very day, Manan Agarwal received the delightful news about his accomplishment in one of the most difficult engineering entrance examination. Giving credit to mock tests and the people surrounding him for boosting his confidence, Manan was happy about his scores. Securing a total percentile of 99.97, Manan aims to appear for the April session of JEE Main 2019 too since he believes he will perform better than before. Q: Congratulations on your performance in JEE Main 2019! To begin with, first of all tell me your name, about yourself, which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?

Manan Agarwal: Thank You. My name is Manan. I have been studying with Jankidas Kapur Public School which is under CBSE Board.
Q: What was your reaction upon knowing your score?
Manan Agarwal: I was quite happy.
Q: What is your score in JEE Main 2019 Paper-1? Are you going to apply for April session also? If yes, is there any particular reason for so.
Manan Agarwal: Well, I scored 99.97 percentile in aggregate. Yes, because I think I can perform better than this one.
Q: Are you happy that NTA is conducting JEE Main and that too twice a year?
Manan Agarwal: Yes. As the January exam helped us to assess our mistakes so that we can do better in the April exam.
Q: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Manan Agarwal: I started preparing for JEE immediately after my Class X. The aim was to learn the fundamentals, gain conceptual clarity, develop logical and analytical thinking as it helps to solve questions. My schedule is to wake up at 7 AM, put in around 10-12 hours of study, solve FIITJEE’s mock tests frequently and study NCERT.
Q: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer-based mode?
Manan Agarwal: No, we were given several computer based mock tests by FIITJEE in last 2 years. All these tests were conducted on All India basis in simulated environment. So we were quite comfortable. We were also given online platform to practice tests at home.
Q: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up? How did you manage preparation for both?
Manan Agarwal: Not much difference because the syllabus of JEE Main is almost same as that of board exams. I would give about ½ to 1 hour everyday for board exam to study English and Physical Education
Q: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Manan Agarwal: Yes, I joined FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh Centre immediately after my Class X in to a 2 year classroom program. It helps to build the concepts with the help of expert teachers, clarify doubts as and when required, and be with like minded peer group. It also helps to get a competitive environment, regular tests and feedback. Support
Q: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Manan Agarwal: It’s been almost every week. Practicing tests helps to develop speed, accuracy and exam temperament. It also helps to identify the mistakes that we commit under pressure.
Q: Did you face any problem during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Manan Agarwal: No. For me, Maths was the easiest, whereas Chemistry was difficult.
Q: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Manan Agarwal: Hard work, support of parents & FIITJEE faculty members. My past achievements did help to build my confidence. (I became NTSE Scholar in 2016-17 & KVPY Scholar in 2017-18)
Q: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Manan Agarwal: I love playing badminton, once in about 3 days.
Q: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Manan Agarwal: Elon Musk
Q: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?
Manan Agarwal: Focus on NCERT, give regular mock tests and analyze performance and work on the weaker areas.
