Lovely Professional University is one of India’s private universities located in Punjab. In an interview with Careers360,Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, Punjab, tell us the rationale behind the university’s motto, what a student can expect from the university in terms of infrastructure, facilities and more. Careers 360: The motto of your university is “Transforming India by Transforming Education.” What steps are being taken by Lovely Professional University to bring to life this adage? How is it different from other universities?
Ashok Kumar Mittal: Since its inception, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has grown phenomenally to emerge as a global university with distinctive strengths in education, under its aim “Transforming India, Transforming Education.” To supplement this notion, LPU has strengthened different academic departments to generate the spirit of progressive competition by identifying core competency areas, benchmarked with top global institutions. In this regard, curriculum delivery has an innovative 'blended approach' that includes development of courses based on industry and academics inputs, coupled with web based contents, application oriented pedagogy, continuous assessment, feedbacks from students and further improvisation on teaching techniques.
Presently, students from all the 29 states and of India and from more than 50 countries have a presence in our 200+ programs in 45+ disciplines.
Careers 360: Owing to growing competition, what steps are you taking to meet the demand of the industry and keep pace with the changing scenario?
Ashok Kumar Mittal: LPU has tied up with companies like Google, Microsoft, CISCO, Oracle, Maruti, SAE India and many more where students get an opportunity to work on live projects. These companies reach LPU campus to teach the students. LPU provides international exposure to its students as they visit 200+ universities across the world under the student exchange programmes.
The thrust is not only to make the students learn from books but also help them to have hands on experience on projects. Imbibing such a spirit, LPU students of computer engineering prepare mobile applications; mechanical engineering students design their own cars; electronics engineering students make robot; electrical engineering students learn live on 100 Kilo Watt solar panel installation; and, similarly students of other streams, too, work on live projects. Presently more than 4000 students from different states of the country are pursuing higher education in different LPU engineering programmes.
Careers 360: How do you maintain the quality of education that is being offered by Lovely Professional University in wake of the vast technological developments that are taking place?
Ashok Kumar Mittal: At LPU, experiential learning proves beneficial for students as they are get hands on projects outside their classrooms, through internship, field trips, national and international tours, research, survey, small group activities and more.
LPU has also tied up with top corporate to open ‘Center of Excellence’ within the campus boundaries. LPU has already been working with Google, SAP, CISCO, EMC2 and many other strong global innovative companies. Students gain on-site experiences by doing internships at corporate giants like Cognizant, Microsoft, Infosys, and ISRO to name a few. Recently, LPU engineering students have collaborated to compete in NASA Challenge at U S Space & Rocket Center.

Ashok Kumar Mittal: We believe that LPU has the highest engineering placement record in North India since three consecutive years. From Google to Microsoft, CISCO to IBM, TCS to Cognizant, Tech Mahindra to Maruti and many such other prestigious companies have recruited LPU students for coveted jobs. In 2016, more than 5, 000 job offers were made and the highest salary package that was offered was Rs 24 Lakh per annum.
Careers 360: What can a student expect in terms of infrastructure facilities at LPU?
Ashok Kumar Mittal: There are 150 student clubs and societies where students can live and follow their passions. LPU students have the requisite infrastructural facilities that cater well to their day-to-day needs at the campus. The whole campus of LPU is wi-fi enabled. As far as security is concerned, LPU is one of the safest and secure campuses in the country with deployment of 3500+ surveillance cameras. The entry to the campus and hostels is possible only through Smart Cards.
