How to attempt and crack JEE Main 2020?
Given below are some pointers to be followed by aspirants who are going to appear in upcoming session of JEE Main and looking for the strategy to attempt and crack JEE Main:
Understand the Instructions well
Sometimes aspirants become over confident, do not listen to the invigilators carefully and end up making mistakes. However, the online computer based test does not require them to fill in circles and candidate details are already there, still they will be required to login using exclusive credentials. Even after starting with the JEE Main question paper, it becomes important to check out what responses can be made, students are given options to attempt the questions or even put them on hold for review, etc. Thus, listening to the invigilator’s instructions only make things a bit convenient for them.
Don’t go for a reading
As the paper is now conducted in online mode and not an offline pen and paper based, candidates are advised not to start reading and exploring the question paper thoroughly and go one by one. The reason being that if one starts with reading all the questions in the first go and then start with attempting the paper, they will end up wasting a considerable amount of time. That is why JEE Main aspirants are always advised to directly start with attempting the questions while keeping one eye over the time.
Some people say that in JEE Main, the Chemistry section should be attempted first and some others say that one should start the paper with attempting the subject they find the easiest. So in order to resolve this dilemma, students are advised to try their hands on JEE Main mock test papers while trying both the theories one after another and check out where they are scoring more. Ideally, one should start with the section they find easy because there will be higher chances of keeping more time for the rest of two sections and it will also boost the aspirant’s morale. If the paper is completed before time, there will be time for revising the question paper as well so that in case some question is misunderstood in the first go and attempted wrongly, there will be scope to rectify the mistake.
Read Questions carefully and do not rush
There are times when aspirants are in much hurry to complete the JEE Main exam before time, that they miss out on the essence of tricky questions and end up attempting wrongly. Most of the aspirants end up making this mistake and thus, it is extremely necessary for them to first read and understand what exactly has been asked in the exam. This habit should be inculcated by students while they are still preparing and practising for the exam so that they already have this to read the question twice and understand what the examiner wants and then take a look on whether the required option is there. The result of such careful behavior will result in less wrongly attempted questions by them and thus, reduce the scope for unnecessary negative marking for questions that can be attempted correctly and bring in full marks. There are questions also where ‘given statement is true’ and ‘given statement is not true’ are the words used and students end up rushing and selecting the wrong answers. Even Prof. Uma Sankar says that until a student does not understand the question and get the correct answer on paper, they should not proceed with choosing any option just for the sake of attempting.
Keep an eye on the clock
WHile being completely drowned into the paper with the aim to attempt and crack JEE Main 2020, many students lose time like water and when they look up at the remaining time, they do not have enough time to attempt remaining questions that creates uninvited panic. This way, they end up incorrectly attempting the questions that were originally supposed to add full marks. Hence, strategically attempting JEE Main to crack the exam requires time management on part of the aspirant. As Prof. Uma Sankar says, the first half an hour is important and students should be solving selective questions in that time solving those whose answers are known. This will help getting control over the mind and boost confidence as well.
Don’t stick to a question
There appears a question which the aspirant thinks that he/ she knows the required formula to solve but the calculations do not bring the answer that resembles any of the four options provided in the question paper. Thus, they should make sure while attempting the question paper that a specified time should be given to individual question and if it takes more than the required time, skip that one and leave t for the last minute when there is nothing to do and rest of the questions are not put on stake for that one tricky question.
Try to reduce negative marks
The questions in the paper are usually tricky and the options provided are a trap. So if you know what exactly has been asked and know the answer as well, then only one should go for attempting as said by Prof. Uma Sankar. Aspirants should strive to reduce the chances of getting negative marks in the exam by avoiding the doubtful questions. In the contrary scenario, students take up the wrong answers unnecessarily just for the sake of answering which affects the positive score.
