GATE 2019 –  IIT Madras has commenced the facility to change the selected exam city of GATE 2019. Candidates will be able to request for a change in the exam city till November 16, 2018. Previously, the candidates could rectify Gender/Category/PwD Status /Dyslexia and other similar learning disabilities from October 31 to November 9. The last date to attend the marked defect(s) was on November 2. The application correction facility of GATE 2019 is available for registered candidates from September 27 in online mode. To make the changes, the candidates are required to log into their accounts. IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2019 in online mode on February 2, 3, 9 and 10 for 24 papers. A new paper "Statistics" has been announced from this year. GATE 2019 is a national level postgraduate entrance examination for admission to M.E./M.Tech and Ph.D. programmes at IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs and other Universities in India. GATE 2019 will be conducted across 200 cities in India and six cities abroad.

GATE is an examination conducted jointly by the IISc, Bangalore and seven IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE. Candidates will be able to select only one GATE paper for examination. The scorecard will be valid for a period of 3 years from the date of announcement of GATE result for M.Tech admissions. Various PSUs also offer recruitment based on the GATE performance of the candidates. Read below the complete details of GATE 2019 such as important dates, eligibility, exam pattern, syllabus, registration, admit card, candidate login, result and cutoffs, etc.

Scores and ranks present in the GATE 2019 result will be based on the performance of the candidates in the examination. Since there will be no common counselling conducted, candidates will be able to apply for IITs through GATE COAP and for NITs through CCMT.

What's new in GATE 2019?

  • A new paper "Statistics" with a code of "ST" has been introduced for GATE 2019.

  • Candidates can apply online after the last date for an extended period on payment of a late fee. The late fee is Rs 500 if candidates apply within September 24 to October 1, 2018. For candidates appearing for the exam at foreign centres will have to pay a late fee of 20 USD.

What Options are available through GATE 2019?

  • M.Tech/M.S./M.E. - Those candidates who qualify GATE will be allotted financial aid of Rs. 12,400 per month in the form of UGC scholarship. 
  • PhD. - After GATE, candidates can also go for PhD. in reputed institutes.
  • PSU Recruitment - Candidates can apply for recruitment into the various PSUs through their secured GATE score.
  • PGDM/PGDIE - If the candidates are interested in management, then they can pursue PG diploma in Industrial Engineering. 
  • Teaching - Jobs as Professor or Asst. Professor in reputed institutes can also be considered
  • Scientists "C" grade jobs
  • Private Sectors - Private firms also use GATE score to shortlist candidates for interviews
  • Study Abroad - GATE qualified candidates can also apply to study abroad based on their GATE scores.

GATE 2019 Mock Test 

The authorities have released the mock test of GATE 2019 on October 30. The candidates can practice for the examination through the GATE 2019 mock test. The format of the examination is reconstructed according to GATE 2019. Since the exam pattern will be similar, the candidates will be able to practice well.

GATE 2019 Application Correction

IIT Madras has commenced the application correction process from September 27, 2018. During the correction procedure, the registered candidates can change some of their submitted information after logging into their GOAPS account. It has to be remembered that not all details are open for correction. Mentioned below are the details that can be corrected:

The request to change the selected exam cities in the application form of GATE 2019 has commenced. Candidates can now change their exam cities till November 16, 2018. For the change, the candidates will simply have to select their preferred exam city and make the requisite payment.

  • For exam city change request outside India (Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka and Kathmandu) - Rs. 3550
  • For exam city change request outside India (Dubai and Singapore) - Rs. 7100

  • The fee is waived for GATE examination city in India
  • For exam city request outside India - USD $10 (Rs. 740)
  • For exam city request from Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka & Kathmandu to Dubai or Singapore - Rs. 4290

Additionally, the authorities had also announced that the candidates had to correct the marked defects in their application form by November 2, 2018, through their account. The application form of those candidates who had failed to do so there application form will be rejected by the authorities. Candidates were able to change their category/gender/PwD status/Dyslexia and other similar learning disabilities from October 31 to November 9, 2018. The following points had to be remembered by the candidates while making the change:

  • Gender change from Female to Male/Transgender (not applicable to SC/ST/PwD) - Rs. 750
  • Category change from SC/ST to Gen/OBC (not applicable to Female and PwD) - Rs. 750
  • PwD status change from PwD to Non-PwD (not applicable to Female and SC/ST) - Rs, 750

Candidates could also change their choice of GATE 2019 exam paper till October 25, 2018. To make the change, the candidates had to log into their account and pay the required fee. Indian candidates had to pay Rs. 300 while Foreign candidates had to pay USD 10. 

How to Prepare for GATE 2019 

GATE is considered to be one of the toughest entrance engineering examinations to crack. To keep the preparation process in full swing, the candidates can read the important information about the exam pattern, syllabus of GATE 2019 along with the sample papers.

Few Tips on How to Prepare for GATE 2019

  • First of all the candidates will have to understand and know the syllabus and exam pattern of GATE. This will allow the candidates to know how the entrance examination will be conducted by the authorities.

  • After knowing the weightage of the topics and syllabus, the candidates are advised to make a study plan to evenly allot the time to different subjects, topics and revision. 

  • Focus should be on concept studies

  • The candidates should solve sample papers and attempt mock test on a regular basis.

  • Revision is the key for preparation. All of the studied material should be consistently revised.

  • The appropriate books and resources have to be referred

  • Candidates should remain healthy and sleep well to remain fresh and open to learning

  • Regular short breaks should be taken by the candidates in between studies.

GATE 2019 Syllabus

Candidates can check the syllabus of GATE 2019 before commencing their preparation for the entrance examination. The GATE 2019 syllabus will be different according to the discipline selected and studied by the candidates during their qualifying examination. The topics and concepts covered by the candidates in their graduation level will mostly be present in the GATE syllabus. GATE Admit Card 2019

IIT Madras will be releasing the admit card of GATE 2019 in online mode on January 4. Using their GATE enrollment number or email id and password, the candidates will have to log in through GOAPS. The GATE 2019 admit card is an important document which has to be printed and produced at the examination centre. If any candidate fails to bring the admit card to the centre, then he/she will not be allowed to attempt the exam. Along with the admit card, a photo id proof also has to be brought. Personal details of the candidate along with address of the examination venue and timings will be available in the GATE 2019 admit card.

GATE Answer Key 2019

All of the correct responses to the questions asked in the exam will be available in the answer key of GATE 2019. IIT Madras will release the GATE 2019 official answer key tentatively in the third week of February 2019. Using the answer key, the candidates will be able to check the correct answers and calculate their probable secured scores before the result is announced.

GATE Result 2019

IIT Madras will be releasing the result of GATE 2019 on March 16. To download the GATE 2019 result, the candidates will have to submit their enrollment id/ email id, registration number and date of birth. All of the details such as the scores and ranks secured by the candidates will be present in the GATE result 2019. The candidates who secure scores equal to more than the cutoff will be able to download their score card.

Steps to Download GATE 2019 Result

  • Enrollment id, registration number and date of birth will have to be provided by the candidates.

  • Click on “Submit”

  • After submitting the details, the result will be displayed on the screen.

  • Qualified candidates will be able to download their score card.

GATE 2019 Score Card 

The score card of GATE 2019 will be available from March 20 to May 31, 2019. GATE 2019 score card will be released only for those candidates who meet the determined cutoff and will be available for only a limited point of time. The score card will be valid for a period of three years from the date of announcement of result.

GATE Cutoff 2019

The cutoff of GATE 2019 is the minimum marks that the candidates will have to secure to qualify the examination. The cutoff acts as a screening process for admission into the various institutes offered M.Tech admissions through GATE. However, PSU’s will be releasing their own cutoff criteria for recruitment.

GATE College Predictor 2019

Careers360 will be releasing the college predictor of GATE 2019 tentatively after the results are announced. Candidates can use the college predictor to shortlist the colleges which will be available for admission based on the candidates' obtained scores/ranks in GATE 2019 examination. To use the college predictor, the candidates will have to log in using their Facebook, Google or registered account. It is to be remembered that the result of GATE 2019 college predictor will be indicative in nature.

PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019

Based on GATE scores, many PSUs offer recruitment to eligible candidates. Every year, companies such as HPCL, ONGC, PowerGrid, BPCL and more recruit candidates who have qualified GATE with good scores. Registrations for PSUs are open according to the recruiters. While some PSUs offer direct recruitment on the basis of GATE scores, there are some who conduct interview or tests. 

GATE 2019 Counselling

IIT Madras will not be conducting a common counselling of GATE 2019. For admissions into the various institutes, the candidates will have to individually apply for allotment. Using the scores and ranks secured in the examination, the candidates will be able to apply for admissions and recruitment. However, common portals are available for those candidates who wish to apply for IIT and NIT admissions. Candidates who are interested in IITs will be able to apply through GATE COAP, and for NITs, the candidates will have to apply through CCMT.

GATE COAP 2019

GATE Common Offer Acceptance (COAP) is a common portal through which GATE qualified candidates will be able to apply for admissions into IITs. Firstly, the candidates will have to register with their obtained GATE scores and select their IITs of their choice. After reviewing, the admission offers from the applied IITs will be listed out in the GATE COAP portal. The candidates will be able to select their preference from the set of offers and proceed with the admission process.

GATE Application Form 2019

Registered candidates could submit the application form of GATE 2019 till October 3, 2018. GATE 2019 application form without late fee was available till September 23 and with late fee till October 1, 2018. The application form was released on August 31, 2018. The entire registration process had to be done through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).  The facility of correction in GATE 2019 application form is now available. If a candidate failed to submit the application form by then, then he/she will not be allowed to attempt the examination.

The given steps could be followed by the candidates to fill and submit the application form of GATE 2019

  • Step 1 – Registration: Firstly, the candidates had to register for GATE 2019 through GOAP. Name, valid email ID and mobile number had to be submitted. After registration, an enrollment number was generated. A password also had to be created by the candidates for future login purposes.

  • Step 2 – Filling of Application Form: Next, the candidates had to submit their personal, academic, contact, college and valid photo id details. Selection of GATE paper and exam centres also had to be done.

  • Step 3 – Uploading of Images: Scanned images of the candidates’ photograph, signature and category certificate (if applicable) had to be uploaded according to the specifications mentioned by the authorities.

  • Step 4 – Payment of Application Fees: The payment had to be done through online mode i.e., net banking/debit card/credit card.

  • Step 5 – Submission of Application Form: Finally, the candidates had to submit their filled application form.

GATE 2019 Application Form Status

After submission of the application form of GATE 2019, the candidates were able to check their form status i.e., whether the authorities had received the form or not. To check the status, the candidates had to vist GOAPS. Candidates were also able to check if any correction is required in their submitted application form or not. GATE Eligibility Criteria 2019

There are some conditions that the candidates will be required to meet for GATE eligibility. The eligibility criteria of GATE 2019 which has to be satisfied by the candidates have been listed below:

  • Age Limit – There is no age limit for GATE applicants.

  • Nationality – The candidates should be of Indian nationality. Candidates belonging to Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates will also be eligible for GATE 2019.

  • Educational Requirement – All of the candidates should have completed or be in their final year of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) or Post-Graduate (M.Sc) degree in any relevant science subject.

  • Pass Percentage – There is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree while applying for GATE 2019.

GATE 2019 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) 

Q: I don’t have my Degree Certificate. What will I have to upload?

A: You will have to upload any one of the following documents

  • Degree certificate

  • Provisional certificate

  • Course completion certificate

  • Professional certificate

  • Membership certificate issued by the society or institute

Final year students, however, must download the Provisional Certificate Letter as per format and get it attested by the Head of Institute/ Dean/ Registrar/ Head of Department. Click here for the certificate.

Q: Can I appear in any GATE paper or only the one in which I have done my under graduation?

A: You can apply for any GATE paper. However, that is not an advisable move as you may face problems during admissions or PSU recruitment. What you should do is to check the PSU recruitment details or the M.Tech eligibility of the institute you wish to apply to and then fill the application form accordingly.

Q: Is there any minimum pass percentage (qualifying exam) or age limit for GATE 2019

A: No, there is no minimum pass percentage asked for the under graduation/ qualifying exam nor is there any age limit.

Q: How many applications can I fill for GATE 2019?

A: You can fill the application for only one GATE paper. 

Q: How will I know if my GATE 2019 application is accepted?

A: You have to login through GOAPS and check the status of the application. The status will mention whether it’s under scrutiny, accepted or has defects etc. 

Q: I have made some mistakes in the details in my GATE 2019 application form. How can I correct the details now?

A: The authorities opens a correction window after the application process is over. Candidates can make corrections to mistakes made in the details. However, they cannot change some details. 

Q: I have paid but the system does not reflect it. What should I do?

A: Make the payment again. Any excess money will be refunded back. However, keep the details of all transactions with you so that you have the record of the payments.

Q: My admit card is unclear. The photograph is blurred. Is it ok to carry it?

A: No. Please write to your zonal centre and send them a copy. They will rectify the problem. You may face problems at the exam centre if you carry an admit card with blurred photograph or unclear print. You may not be allowed into the exam hall. 

Q: Can I carry a copy of my Aadhaar Card along with the GATE admit card?

A: No. The original must be carried with your to be verified. Also, you must carry the document that you mentioned in your GATE application. If you have mentioned the Aadhaar Card then carry it. If you have mentioned the PAN card and carry the Aadhaar Card, you will not be allowed into the exam hall.
