3000 seats vacant in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs; Join Careers360 campaign to demand spot round
Careers360 has already reported on more than 3000 seats remaining vacant across 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and 18 Government-funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) after the 6th round of seat acceptance under JoSAA 2016.
NITs have a total vacancy of 1518 seats after the 6th and final round of seat acceptance. At IIITs and GFTIs, total of 407 and 1174 seats respectively, are lying vacant. Also, IITs have around 100 vacant seats, double as compared to last year, after the final round of seat acceptance. Experts have suggested that the large vacancies have been caused due to process flaws in JoSAA.
Why you must participate in this campaign?
Such a large number of seats going unoccupied at these institutes of national importance, is not only depriving thousands of eligible candidates from admission opportunities, but also results in wastage of our national resources. Thus, such a large vacancy at these premier institutes is a loss for every citizen of our country.
At this crucial juncture, nothing but a spot round can save these coveted engineering seats from going waste across NITs+System. With insights from experts, Careers360 has reasoned why spot round is the only solution to fill up the over 3000 seats now.
Many JEE Main 2016 takers and their parents have already demanded a spot round to fill these vacancies. Careers360 helpline has received thousands of queries regarding possibilities of spot round for admission into NIT+System. Also, candidates have written to MHRD minister Mr Prakash Javadekar and JoSAA authorities for immediate announcement of a spot round to fill vacant seats.
How to participate and write to MHRD and JoSAA? - 4 simple steps
On behalf of thousands of JEE takers, Careers360 has launched this campaign demanding immediate announcement of a spot round to fill the vacant seats. You can join this campaign by writing to JoSAA authorities and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) by following the 4 simple steps given below.
Steps to follow:
Copy the drafted letter for JoSAA/MHRD below or download it by clicking here
Paste it in your mail box
Put a subject line – Immediately announce a spot round to fill 3000 vacant seats at NITs+System
Send the drafted mail to the following email IDs
Mr Prakash Javadekar,
Hon'ble Minister of HRD
I write to you to bring your kind attention to the large number of vacant seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs after the final round of JoSAA counselling.
You must be aware that JoSAA authorities have announced that a total of 3099 seats are still lying vacant at the prestigious engineering institutions that participated in the joint seat allotment exercise conducted by JoSAA. This means that final vacancies for the academic year 2016-17 account for as much as 13 per cent of the total seat capacity of NITs+System.
Sir, you must be agreeing that the very purpose of introducing JoSAA was to reduce seat vacancy at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Unfortunately, the large number of vacancies at different institutes raises doubts on the efficiency of the joint counselling process. More than 3000 vacant seats after the final round of counselling is the testimony of the failure of JoSAA in tackling seat vacancy crisis at the institutes of national interest.
Having prepared hard for an engineering seat, it is painful and distressing for students like me to know that such a large number of seats are going vacant despite lakhs of aspirants waiting in queue with their valid JEE Main rank card issued by CBSE.
I strongly feel that an unfilled seat in any of the institutions of national importance is a loss to every citizen of our country. Further, vacant seats in such institutions also deprive thousands of eligible candidates of their lifetime opportunities.
I, therefore, request you to immediately announce a spot round to fill vacant seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. This will not only help thousands of engineering aspirants, but also add to credibility to our admission system.
We look forward to an immediate announcement for spot round!
A JEE Main examinee
Background: What led to seat vacancy in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs?
Careers360 had reported on the ‘process flaws’ that led to such a large vacancy this year again despite two additional rounds of seat allotment.
In a similar situation last year when over 3000 seats had remained unfilled, JoSAA had conducted a special round of counseling. Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) had announced a special round for filling the vacant seats from August 9 to 11, 2015.
Therefore, in the similar way, for the current academic year, the seat vacancy crisis can be tackled with a spot round now. Though, like last year’s special round, this could be a temporary solution for the academic year 2016-17, it is only pragmatic for JoSAA officials to immediately announce and conduct a spot round for now.

what is the cut off marks for st in jee mains sep 1-6 exams
The cut off for the jee mains exams will be changed every year as per their analysis ,last year it is increased from 24 to 42 .is depends on the number of student appearing for the exam
for joining the clg nit after jee mains exam . they consider which rank category rank or india rank for admission.
ok for joining the NIT college after exams across india ,
actually across country they keep different ranking list for different course
but i will give you a brief answer you ranking should be like around 346 to 7305 .
these is a bit comfort marks ,and remember these is basic rank to apply for all NIT ,
if you go for chemical engg and all ,they give more flexiebel ranking list
